CONCERNED NIGERIANS DEBATE MERITS AND DEMERITS OF OBASANJO'S THREAT

Following President Olusegum Obasanjo's November 10, 1999, ultimatum to the Governor of Bayelsa to effect the arrest of alleged criminals who killed some policemen in Odi, failing which a state of emergency would be declared in the State, thus a Federal Government take-over, there was a series of email exchanges detailing a variety of viewpoints on the wisdom and legality of President Olusegum's declaration. The following documents were among the most important ones that were circulated in the Nigerian community in North America and Europe.
