COMMENTS ON REMARKS BY MAJOR GENERAL VICTOR MALU, CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF, ON DESTRUCTION OF ODI TOWN

"If you fire at me, I will fire to take your head. If you call in the army to take over from the police, the rules of engagement will be different. You should equip the police to enable them carry out their functions, and allow the army to concentrate on training to protect the territorial integrity of the country" Maj. - Gen. S.V. Malu, (COAS), January 2000.

"We don't feel too comfortable being called to assist the Police. In normal times, Police are used. When it goes beyond them, the MOPOL comes in, in a high handed manner. In the future, equip the Police. Let them do the job for which they are paid……Don't call us to go on this type of operation. There are people who are trained for it."---Victor Malu, Major General, COAS, Nigerian Army.
