Dear Igho Natufe:
This a very progressive contribution. We really need to get together and work out our differences in the Delta. I recall that you telephoned me yesterday. That rally shows your concern. However, let me make this correction. There was never a local government area (LGA) created with its headquarters in Ogbe-Ijaw. It was the first Ijaw Military Governor of the Delta who announced an LGA with headquarters in Ogbe-Ijaw before the official gazette came out with the headquarters in Ogidigben. That was pure mischief and if the military govt were honest, that governor should have been displined. Ijaw publicity machine has been carrying the false statement all over the world. REPEAT THERE WAS NEVER ANY LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN DELTA STATE WITH HEADQUARTERS IN OGBE-IJAW - NEVER.
In the first place the LGA was being created for Itsekiris not Ijaws. Ijaws had a whole new state, Bayelsa with its full complements of LGA's, created for them in addition to Rivers State. Furthemore, they already had 3 LGA's in Delta State. Itsekiris had only two LGA's in the Delta and a third one was being created for them. It is inconceivable that an LGA created for Itsekiris will have its headquarters in Ogbe-Ijaw.
Ijaws could have demanded or lobbied for another LGA in Delta State. They did not. Instead this unwarranted attack on Itsekiris was their response.
In seeking solutions, we must start with the correct premises. But let us continue to seek a peaceful solution.
