Cultural Evening
November 1, 2003
Old Hall,
All
Saints Centre, Monson Road, London SE14
A distinct feature of the 2004 UHS Annual
Conference was the addition of a cultural evening. It turned out to be
grand occasion. It consisted of three elements. First, Ms Janet
Oromafuru Eruvbetere, a London-based lawyer, gave an important and
informative lecture on changing patterns of marriage in Urhobo culture.
Second, Professor Michael Nabofa, from the University of Ibadan, gave a
stimulating lecture on the origins and programmes of Igbe,
a 19th century religious movement in Urhoboland. Third, the cultural
evening was brought to a delightful treatment of the dance rituals of Igbe
religion.
